We have been doing work with chakra's and crystals since before I was born and have our own chakra wand for healing and chakra stone sets but this looks like a good book and set for my very own kit.

The chakras are vortexes of energy that correspond to major areas of our lives, such as love, communication, perception, survival.

This unique kit features seven stones and crystals—each resonating with one of the seven major chakras. Laura Tuan offers guidance for using these stones to open and align your chakras and maintain the steady flow of vital energy within.

MY Pendulum

I bought a really cool pendulum last year and I have been working with it.  Its really nicely balanced and responsive.  Unfort my mother totally loves it and is trying to steal it from me!  She has her own but she covets mine!  I do say mine is totally cool!.  It is a sunstone and has a shorter chain and the end of the chain is a small ball of sunstone.  It has a really good feel.   I still have to programme it properly but I am just experimenting.  Its totally awesome that it moves on its own and there are so many patterns, more than most people think.  At the moment I just have to keep it out of my mothers reach as it seems to like her too.  LOL.

I will post a photo of it too.

My mothers pendulum is a rose quartz one and its really cool too.

The most important thing about a pendulum is that it must be well balanced and you need to find the right length.  Apart from that you need to be patient and learn about it and and bond with it and you will need to programme it for your own use and for its dedicated use when you decided what you intend to  use it mostly for.

You can use it for dowsing and some other things.

Tea Reading

My granny taught my mum how to read tea leaves and her mum taught her.  Its been handed down through the generations in our family.

I just learnt about it the other day from my mum and we also had a look at some good sites.  It does depend on the tea leves you use though and you need the tea leaves not the tea bags.

There needs to be a good ratio of tea leaves to stalks.

You can also read coffee grinds and some other stuff.

The placing in the cup determines if its in the past, future or present or if it relates to you or your family and its a little like cloud reading which my sister and I are really good at.

I will write more about this again.

Can You Feel the Cosmic Energy?
This article was written by Anne Jirsch
posted under Health & Healing

Every day of your life you are aware of energy. Energy is in those moments when you think of someone and feel a warm glow, or you walk into a room and feel bad vibes, or how color can create stress, or a piece of music can make you cry or want to dance.

The truth is that we are all made up of cosmic energy. Everything you see, smell, taste, and touch is made up of energy. The chair you are sitting in, the magazine you are holding, your thoughts and feelings; these items are all pure energy. Even where there appears to be nothing, like empty space, there is energy. Everything in the universe and beyond is made up of chi—energy, the universal force. Luckily we can access this knowledge and use cosmic energy in all areas of our lives.

I have been working with future life progression for many years. This is a technique whereby I go into a trance and move forward in time to view the future. It is the flip side of regression. I take my clients forward for them to see where they will be and what they will be doing in years to come, even in their next lifetime. I began to wonder what our future selves knew that would be useful for us to know. Mankind faces many challenges and we as individuals need guidance with our own lives.

For two years I took trips into the future to find out what we know in the next century. Time and time again the same answer came back: our future selves are more aware of cosmic energy. They know how to utilize energy in many different ways. They are aware of the subtle nature of energy and the difference a small change can make.

For twenty years I have also worked with past life regression; I am constantly amazed at how aware our ancient selves were. They understood energy, they flowed with the seasons. They knew how to use energy to their benefit. It came naturally to them.

During this time I discovered techniques and ideas, then came back and tried them out in my workshops. In short, they worked.

Our current, so-called civilized selves have forgotten how to use this energy. We think that we are clever using our mobile phones and emails, yet our past and future selves often used telepathy. We have made great medical advances, but we once knew how to use our own energy to heal ourselves. We work hard, but once knew how to attract everything we needed. We have forgotten so much.

Once you understand that cosmic energy really exists, that it’s all around you, and impacts your every day life, you can connect with its flow easily and naturally. When you know how to connect with this cosmic energy you can work with it to bring into your life whatever you need, be it love money or good health.

Once you accept the notion of cosmic energy anything is possible. It becomes natural to send telepathic messages and to travel astrally. It becomes easy to feel in advance if a place or person is good for you. You become aware of yourself as a soul, a being of energy that has existed in some form or other throughout time. You become aware of your own unique purpose your reason for being.

As a being of energy it becomes natural that you can move through time and space; you understand your connection to everything and everyone. This is where the fun begins. You become aware of all the love and abundance in the world, making it easier to flow to you. You can raise your love vibration attracting wonderful people into your life including your soul mate. You can shine at interviews or parties. When your cosmic energy is flowing, you get the job, people are drawn to you, and life becomes easier.

The problem is that many people are vibrating at a low frequency. Each and every day we are bombarded with negativity from the news and the people around us. Our past experiences and ancestral history can also produce a poor flow of energy.

Let me give you an example. Imagine having a relationship, and after six months it ends unexpectedly and abruptly. At that time, your personal cosmic energy will drop and you will be vibrating on a lower frequency as you feel sadness, hurt, and rejection.

Now, because your vibration is quite low, what will you attract? Other people vibrating at a lower frequency. And so as you meet a new partner or friend you are dismayed when they do not treat you well, and your vibration drops even further. You begin the downward spiral. This is when we hit a bad patch and wonder,

"Why does this always happen to me?"

The same can happen with work; once we have had a bad experience such as a back-stabbing colleague or a bullying boss, our energy will drop. Guess what? We will continue to attract more of the same.

Luckily, my jaunts into the future taught me many techniques to raise our vibration, which not only allows us to attract great things into our lives butt also make us feel great.

Our future selves are more aware of what is good for them; they feel the subtle vibrations. They use telepathy and astral travel to connect with others. They use a combination of color, sound, and smell to produce a powerful synergistic effect and, with millions of different combinations, they can produce virtually any effect they wish.

During my visits I discovered how they use their own etheric energy to tap into people and discover just what they are thinking and feeling. They can even leave a little of their etheric energy behind them; this is useful in many situations (at, say, an interview when you want to leave a lasting impression). From this I developed my own Etheric Energy Technique.

In this busy world it is easy to lose track of what is important and to lose our connection with cosmic energy. We get waylaid with gadgets and toys and television shows, yet the real magic is all around us every moment of every day. And this energy is just waiting for you to tap into it, to improve all areas of your life.

You are a wonderful, powerful being of energy and you are meant to be connected to the universal cosmic force; the more you connect the better life will become.

I believe the energy crisis on earth is actually a symbol of the energy crisis people have within themselves. But as we become aware of our own energy the situation will resolve. As we begin to create a wonderful energy within and around ourselves and others, the earth will receive our vibration and this will help the world to become a better place.

4 Ways to Heal Using Divine Energy

This article was written by Douglas De Long

The Gospels of the New Testament, written records, mention several women as being associated with Jesus. Along with Mother Mary, there was Mary Magdalene. She worked as an energy healer and herbalist. She was not a prostitute as the Gospels wrongly portrayed her. She was closely associated with Jesus, who trained her in the ancient mysteries. Mary Magdalene used her secret knowledge and gifts and became a wonderful healer.

The above paragraph is a direct quote from pages three and four of my book Ancient Healing Techniques. You can apply the healing wisdom of the ancient world to your modern life. This is the same healing wisdom, the same knowledge, that Jesus used. It is a true blessing that more and more people are now employing these healing techniques as opinions and viewpoints shift. Everywhere you look someone is working with healing angels and spirit helpers. Gifted energy healers balance chakras, the energy centers of the body, and clear the aura or the Human Energy Field (as it is sometimes called). Many of these healers can see and sense this light that surrounds the body. Past life therapists, medical intuitives, and spiritual counselors full of the light from the Creator touch the souls and bodies of many on the planet.

Enlightened individuals are able to provide soul healing sessions for patients, clients, and loved ones. These special persons are linked to the heavens above and bring high vibrations of energy down to Earth in order to help others. Countless souls are awakening and seeking these services as well as embracing spirituality. As more people awaken and become enlightened they use the power of their minds, work with their angels, and help to change our troubled planet.

Psychic and spiritual abilities are developing at an unprecedented level as humankind links with Heaven. Simply put, you are now using more parts of your brain that are linked to psychic and spiritual attributes. This is the start of true enlightenment. The world is changing in a special, wondrous way. Humanity is raising its collective consciousness to a greater height. This means that many people have raised their personal vibrations to a new spiritual level. Jesus, Mother Mary, and Mary Magdalene are all a part of this monumental event. A profusion of literature, an explosion of knowledge and wisdom, and an inner knowing of the Truth is upon us.

As a medical intuitive, past life therapist, and spiritual teacher, I am vividly aware of these magnificent changes. I have had incredible experiences through the years. As a young child I was visited by angels and special spiritual beings. These visitations have continued into my adult years, and most importantly, into the present time. Most recently, I have received these special visitors while awake in a deep, altered state and during lucid dreams as I travel astrally; one of these visitors has been Mother Mary. All I can say is that she appears to me as a beautiful woman covered in a brilliant bluish-white light. Through the years, she has worn different clothing, and she has even worn a band of linked gold coins positioned upon her forehead. As a child I would tell my mother or a few of my other relatives what I saw beside my bed when I was awakened in the middle of the night. My relatives would negate my experiences with comments like, “Oh, it was only a bad dream.” Or “It’s just your imagination, Dougie.” I won’t get into the “It’s a boogie man” scenario. Needless to say, very few people believed what I had seen.

I now know how very real and important these visitations were (and in fact, still are!). The wonderful messages I received were about the coming changes on our planet, the closer connection to the angels and Heaven, and the possible great future that could be in store for us all. The only thing is, we had a choice to follow the loving, spiritual path or continue down the slippery, violent slope that we were on. Since we are all seeing the great, profound, and positive changes, I realize that there is a hope for Earth. We have the spiritual power and the opportunity to create a world of light and love, not war and death. The ability to see auras or lights around individuals, the opportunities to do chakra energy healing, and the gift of working with angels and spirit helpers are part of this spiritual growth and positive change. Below are four examples of healing that are part of this.
  1. Soul Healing is an advanced method of astral travel or soul journeying.  When you fall asleep or even when you are in a relaxed, altered state, the following will happen: your soul will lift out of your physical body and start to travel.  Sometimes you will travel about your bedroom or visit a friend’s home.  Time and distance are not obstacles for your human soul.

When you become more experienced at astral or soul travel, you can start doing amazing things while in this state.  Visits to the heavenly fields, healing temples, and learning temples are all a part of this ability.  Essentially, you can think of it as a passport to Heaven.  You can even visit the Akashic Records or Universal Library to access information about your previous incarnations

The most amazing gift that occurs is the ability to heal others while you are in your soul form.
  2. Distance Healing is the ability to send healing energy to someone at a distance. It is very similar to Soul Healing except you do not physically visit the individual, but merely send energy to the person needing the healing.  Distance healing is the most commonly used phrase for this method of energy healing, but it also referred to as Absent Healing or Remote Healing.

In ancient times, the healing temples and mystery schools of Egypt employed four specific symbols for distance healing:
    • The Ankh represents the symbol for life and is used for the healing of cancer.
    • The Solar Winged Disc symbol is used for emotional healing.
    • The Sun is representative of vitality and is used for the healing of most other diseases.
    • The Eye of Horus is used for spiritual healing and enlightenment.

The use of these symbols is for the purpose of training, and can be eliminated from your procedure when you feel you are ready. As you become stronger and more proficient at doing distance healing, your focusing of energy followed by its release will be all that is required.
  3. Channeling Divine or Universal Energy can be accomplished through your crown chakra and into your body once you’ve opened and cleared your crown chakra. By simply asking for energy to come down through the top of your head, you will feel the Divine Energy entering through the top of your head; you will then visualize this healing energy flowing through the rest of your body. Let these feelings continue for a few minutes before returning to normal consciousness. Channeling this divine energy will bring a tremendous amount of healing to your aura, chakras, body, and internal organs. Additional benefits include stress reduction, the release of negativity from your spirit, the acceleration of spiritual growth and psychic development, and a dramatic slowing down of the aging process.
  4. Healing Colors can also be used to heal yourself and others. These colors are closely connected to the Universal or Divine Energy, and have an extremely high vibratory rate. People with the ability to see auras can see and sense these beautiful illuminations.

Each of these colors has its own rate of vibration or frequency, and with their own purpose. These colors enter the crown chakra, and move downward through the aura and chakras. During all of this, these high vibrations of energy will step down to lower frequencies.  As the colors flow into the major chakras, they will work into the sympathetic nervous system and the central nervous system.

Healing colors, along with Universal Energy or Chi, will flow through both the nerve and energy meridians into the glands, organs, cells, and tissues of the human body. This ensures that high vibrations of healing colors and energy affect these areas of the body in a beneficial way.

These four techniques are merely an introduction to healing using divine energy, all of which and more I touch on in my books Ancient Teachings for Beginners and Ancient Healing Techniques.

I leave you all with this final message. As a human you are a multidimensional being. You can operate in both the earthly and the heavenly realms if you so choose. As a human soul you are a light being and a spark of the Creator or Great Spirit. As an enlightened or initiated one, you can use your potential gifts to help manifest Heaven on Earth.

May you receive all the spiritual blessings of life!

The Healing of the Celtic Tree Calendar

Read about it here:  The Healing of the Celtic Tree Calendar

This article was written by Sharlyn Hidalgo
posted under Pagan

Ruis Elder is the tree that represents the month of October in the Celtic Tree Calendar, and specifically rules October 3rd through the 30th. This is the last tree in the Wheel of the Year before the 31st of October (known as Samhain). Samhain is a hinge holiday that marks the end of autumn and the beginning of winter. This is a time when the veil between the worlds is most thin, and one can make contact with the spirits of their loved one and their ancestors.

The Celts believed that communication with their relatives and friends and animals that had crossed over provided needed love, guidance, and encouragement. For them, this was also a time to give gratitude and count one’s blessings. Here we take stock of what we have grown through the year and with the help of the crone, we let go of that which is not longer needed. She helps us to reap what is good and cut away that which is complete or unused. She helps us to reevaluate and sweep clean our slates so we can begin to plan our new adventures and aspirations for a new cycle. (You can read more about this tree month and all of the fifteen trees of the Celtic Tree Calendar, with their particular teachings, rune, ogham, astrology, totems, and healings in my new book The Healing Power of Trees: Spiritual Journeys with the Celtic Tree Calendar.)

During this time of increased spirit communication, I was able to have a powerful experience and communication with my ancestors in which I could truly see the value and validity of what the tree teaching of the Elder is talking about. I was able to connect and communicate with my elders in a way that made me feel appreciated and understood and encouraged.

I was at the first class of Nicki Scully's Alchemical Healing series; a wonderful teacher named Reverend Kathryn Ravenwood was leading us on a guided journey to commune with our ancestors. We were working with forgiveness and our lineages.

With my eyes closed I followed the mediation. In my mind’s eye I traveled with bees that took me to two beautiful gardens. The first garden, in England, was to represent my mother’s lineage. In the lovely English garden I spoke with my maternal great, great, great grandfather, who had been a merchant. He came right up to me and told me that he wanted to apologize to me. He said that he had enjoyed his feeling of superiority that he had experienced in relation to his wife and other female members of his family. He was sorry for using this power to intimidate and lord over these women. He was sorry for belittling the powers of the feminine.

(Indeed my mother never really felt supported or honored for being female, and I suppose that idea was handed down through the family.) He also communicated that he sorely grieved the deforestation of England and his lack of connection to natural law that was lost with the onslaught of Christianity. He explained that in my search to understand my own ancient heritage that he, too, was able to feed something he had longed for within his own soul. He too was able to feel the healing power of the trees and his own deep connection to the land. I was quite touched by this connection to this man.

The second garden, in Swansea, Wales, represented my father's Welsh lineage. In this garden I met with my own grandmother. She had been an evangelistic Christian, and she told me that she grieved her rigidity and judgments. She realized that the divine power of healing is not restricted to one path of human belief. She told me that she had interpreted her belief in Jesus and in healing in too narrow a way. She said that she honored my healing work, and was very proud of the knowledge of herbs and healing passed on through the females of her family. She had been a faith healer, and she was glad to give me her blessing and to encourage me in my healing work now that she had a higher perspective. This was quite remarkable to me to share an affinity for healing with my grandmother and a respect for a heritage that had once been so very connected to nature and its healing properties.

The bees then traveled back to me; they energetically brought both lines of my ancestry together and placed them into a beautiful Chalice of the Divine Feminine that magically appeared in my hands. From the golden chalice grew a beautiful miniature world tree. I then heard the words, "Ancient Sovereignty." I experienced a blessing in that moment, and a sense that I was doing just what I was meant to be doing.
I had always wondered why I was studying the ancient Celtic mysteries and the trees. These words gave me a connection to the lands of the British Isles and the trees and Celtic ways. I felt encouraged to keep working with the trees, and to share what I was learning of the Celtic cosmology and the Celtic Tree Calendar. This was indeed a happy and satisfying journey!

I have had other connections with ancestors and relatives and friends who have died. These have come through dreams, guided meditations, and synchronicities, as well as through study and the preparation of The Healing Power of Trees. I have also seen the healing power of these visitations with clients and students. This is something I have experienced. This is something that is real to me.
Life is full of the unknown and the unseen, but not unfamiliar forces. These connections and communications have enriched and enlivened my life. Life would seem dull without these connections to my own lineage. I am grateful. I embrace the understanding that the dead cross back and forth at will, and that I can commune with my loved ones who no longer live on this plane. It is my experience that this is an entirely natural contact and its purpose is to heal our hearts, heal our relationships with the departed, and help us move beyond our fear of death. It is also my experience that this time of year lends itself to these communications as the fabric that separated these worlds does become very thin and it is easier to make contact.

I am grateful to my ancestors for reminding me that my relatives are watching over me, and that my dreams are a continuation of their dreams. Perhaps it is possible that healing can come through this communication, not only for myself but also for them as they let me know what they would have done differently had they the consciousness at the time. I can learn from their past mistakes. The Celts believed heavily in communion with those that had passed on, and they believed that those communications provided support and guidance. I am grateful to the teaching of the Elder tree that allows me to understand that these communications are natural and a birth right. I am happy that I am a continuance of my lineages and that although they are not visually present in the dimension that they support me to follow my own aspirations and to grow beyond judgments, beliefs, and habits that do not lead to love and acceptance. I am reminded to be a good steward of the planet and to all growing things and to be grateful for this magical kingdom that we inhabit. The trees teach me this and my ancestors remind me that we are ever growing in our consciousness.

There’s been a lot of talk about psychic and paranormal kids in current movies, television, and books. The truth is, most kids today have intuitive and spiritual gifts! It’s a whole new kind of intelligence that lets children understand and process things differently—at school, with peers and at home.
For parents, it can seem confusing. But once you understand what to look for, intuitive and spiritual gifts aren’t hard to spot. While these abilities may "cluster" differently in individual children, here are some traits to watch for:
  • Is your child highly sensitive or gifted?
  • Is he imaginative, creative, or a "right brain" thinker?
  • Does your child get the "vibe" of people and situations, even total strangers?
  • Is she affected by crowds or noisy places?
  • Does she sometimes say she’s been to a place before, even though you know she hasn’t?
  • Does he have an imaginary playmate, or say he hears voices?
  • Does she have a deep knowledge of her ancestors, and you’re not sure how?
  • Does your child say he sees ghosts?
  • Does she experience noises, flashes of light, or other unexplainable occurrences?
  • Is your child deeply attracted to animals, or has a "way" with them?
  • Does she feel an urge to put her hands on things to help or heal them?
  • Can your child see auras?
  • Does your child have especially vivid dreams?
  • Does your child understand the teachings of Jesus, Buddha, and other Holy Ones, and you aren’t sure where she got the information?
If you answered yes to even a few of these questions, it’s likely your child has emerging psychic or spiritual gifts. It goes without saying that if you’re the parent or caretaker of a child who’s showing abilities like these, you’ll want more information—fast! But before we delve into the what’s and how’s of intuitive abilities, there’s something that you need to know. Basically: Psychic development and spiritual giftedness are the same thing.
In other words, if you head down the path of psychic development long enough, you’re going to become spiritually aware. And if you head down the path of spiritual practice long enough, you’re going to become psychic. That’s because both abilities stem from the same source—the Divine. You access them through Source/One/God/All/Love/Light—whichever name you choose to use. If you head down one road, you’ll eventually reach the other.
This applies to your child. And also to you.
Moving Beyond Labels
I get frustrated when I see quizzes meant to quantify psychic abilities in kids. There is more to the souls of our beautiful, glorious children than tallying points on how psychic or spiritual they are!
But more importantly, kids’ skills are developing as they grow. They might have one kind of psychic ability now, and a new ability next year. Once a child begins to open to intuitive abilities or spiritual knowingness, their abilities continue to open (and open, and open!) So where they are now may not be where they’re going to end up.
For example, one month ago, Margaret might have shown no clairvoyant ability at all, and now she might be easily able to see "movies in her head." At Christmastime, Trina may have been obsessed with Santa, but by February she might have received a message from grandmother, who died four years earlier.
Opening, awakening, emergence—it happens over time.
I’m also, for the same reasons stated above, not going to break down your children into categories determined by their year of birth or eye color. It’s just too simplistic to take a quiz and then firmly nod your head and say "Oh, Gabe’s an Indigo," or "Jesse’s a Crystalline," or whatever the category du jour is.
I know, I’m stubborn.
I know, it makes it harder for you.
But we’ve evolved past that.
My point is, your children are whole beings, and even if they score off the charts on some imaginary PQ (Psychic I.Q. test) it’s just as important that they have earth skills for this very earthy life, such as how to make themselves a bowl of cereal, play nice with others, and get their science project turned in on time.
What Are the Ten Core Psychic Abilities?
That said, your child is like to develop in some key ways. Here’s an overview of what I call the "core abilities." Remember, there are no points to tally here, no grades to hand out, no birth years to consider. Just take a look, and see if any of these abilities match up to what you’ve noticed about your child.
  1. Clairsentience is the art of psychic feeling. Basically, a clairsentient child feels everything. She picks up energy from a crowd, at the grocery store, in a hectic classroom. Clairsentients may also have the ability to hold an object in their hand, and to tell you about its history (psychometry).
  2. Clairaudience is the art of psychic hearing. If your child is clairaudient, she will hear things—unfortunately, this does not mean she will hear you calling her for dinner! She may hear via spirit guides, angels, or other entities; this may take the form of an imaginary playmate. She may also hear music.
  3. Clairvoyance is the art of psychic seeing. If your child is clairvoyant, he will be able to easily see what he might call "pictures in his head," or "movies in his mind."
  4. Mediumship is the ability to communicate with those who have died. If your child is a medium, she’ll need support—it can be tricky when you are being contacted by spirits from other realms.
  5. Channeling is the art of receiving via another entity. Channels move themselves aside in order to receive from the collective consciousness of the Divine, which may show up as a spirit guide, angel, or other teacher. It also may appear in channeled writing, music, or art.
  6. Remote viewing is the ability to see things that are far away, as if you were there in person. Kids who are good at this can have a career working for detective agencies!
  7. Astral projection. Kids who astral project are able to move their consciousness to different places, while their bodies stay put. Astral projection can also be related to shifting or traveling across time, including past life regression.
  8. Energy healing is the ability to use energy to heal via hands or distance. If your child is an energy healer, she can find the exact area that aches without being told. She’ll also may be able to sense illness in the body as a medical intuitive.
  9. Spiritual advancement is the gift of deep spiritual knowing. These children know everything about the universe, without ever being told. They just know.
  10. Other abilities. If you can’t determine your child’s abilities from the above categories, consider the idea that our children are evolving beyond the abilities we’ve had in the past, and that new abilities are evolving!
As a parent or caretaker, the more you know about what psychic abilities look like at what ages, what stumbling blocks your child may encounter, and how the energy of the universe works in general, the more you can support your child.
The best news is, once you become open to the reality of what is happening for your child, this stuff isn’t particularly hard to learn. Better still? As you explore the realm of psychic development and spiritual giftedness for your child—there’s a very strong chance you’ll become psychic yourself!

Samhain is a hinge that marks the end of autumn and the beginning of winter. Sharlyn Hidalgo, author of The Healing Power of Trees, discusses the healing power of the Celtic Tree Calendar, especially at this time when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest.

Discover the Ancient Secrets of the Freemasons

This article was written by Jean-Louis de Biasi
posted under Magick

In Dan Brown’s novel The Lost Symbol, Freemasons are portrayed as a mysterious group of conspirators who have been secretly ruling America from its very creation. Of course, we have to remember that this is a fictional book, which uses certain elements of truth in a creative way in order to develop the storyline of the novel.

Freemasonry is a very old fraternity that has members worldwide. At first glance, its secrets may seem very insignificant. Every single ritual has been published. In fact, anyone can go online and read the text of the ritual meetings or even get an outline of the "mysterious" initiations. It is true that some parts have been deleted from these public documents, such as secret passwords or signs. However, 0.4 seconds on Google will give you access to all this information; with a little effort, the most important secrets of this fraternity can be unveiled to anyone. Recognizing that all of its secrets have been published and are accessible to anyone, it is hard to understand how this fraternity continues to exist and grow.

It is true that Freemasonry is a powerful and useful philanthropic fraternity. The local Masonic Lodges, as well as the Scottish Rite Lodges and the Shriners, work hard to provide charitable help to communities in many important areas: orthopedics, education, etc. They help those who cannot afford critical surgeries and treatments. The aid they provide to the poor and to children in need is essential work that really helps our communities. Yet Freemasonry claims to accomplish something more. They assert the existence of a spiritual secret, some kind of mysterious esoteric process that allows the apprentice to get in touch with his own spiritual self. This quest of the soul, the search for the "inner divine," begins during the initiation process and continues during the rituals that are practiced regularly in Masonic lodges.

From the time of the ancient Mysteries, initiatic Orders offered many different ceremonies that are capable of altering an individual’s state of consciousness. From a certain point of view, I may say that initiation is a "divine play." At the base level, initiation is a method that introduces symbols through ritual movements in order to act on the subconscious mind of the initiate. The ritual use of symbols causes the person to react psychologically: he begins to pay attention to the archetypes present in his subconscious, and this activates the bond that attaches him to the spiritual and divine planes. If a properly carried out ritual can make you gain consciousness of your divine inner nature, then it is truly considered self-sufficient.

However, the process cannot stop there, because this method does not work perfectly each time. The candidate is symbolically designated a "rough stone." Some stones will remain rough throughout their entire Masonic course. Indeed, it seems that some stones are not easy to polish. Is this the fault of Masonry and its rituals? Not entirely.

The rituals are generally performed in a very beautiful external Temple. You have to remember that, in the Platonic tradition, beauty is consubstantial with goodness and justice. Thus the cultivation of beauty, when associated with the study of philosophy and the practice of virtue, elevates the candidate towards the Divine. However, one should not assume that the beauty of an external Temple automatically enables the candidate to connect with the Divine; indeed, such an illusion would lead you to forget the nature of the true inner Temple. Ritual owes its reason for existence to the reality of the inner life, as do all of the elements that surround the initiate during the ritual.

It is appropriate that the student should learn how to rebuild the Temple of Self, and in this section, you will learn how to fashion an inner Temple from your external Temple, in order to give it a true reality in your heart.

Regarding the esoteric use of Masonic symbols (or any other symbol): from the moment a symbol becomes alive to you as a practitioner, it becomes possible for you to give it life in the external world. Thus, you cannot act on the outside world, if you have not first accomplished the necessary work in the inner world. Before lighting a candle in your outer Temple in a ritual, you must first light the candle inside of you (in your creative imagination). Thus, if you want to be able to bring light into your Temple, it is essential that you begin by illuminating yourself from within.

The techniques of internalizing symbols and then acting on the symbols by way of rituals are extremely old. The use of these techniques over the intervening centuries helped to elaborate various, even more ancient initiatic systems, of which Freemasonry is a part. In the ancient world, the orator used to recite most of the lectures from memory, so there were special techniques to help them memorize the work as perfectly as possible. One such technique was to create a mental representation of a place, where the orator would then put the various elements that were part of the speech that he was memorizing. Such a representation is actually a physical reality into which it is possible to put specific objects, individuals, or particular scenes. At the moment when the orator recited his speech, it was sufficient that he re-visualize the scene, while mentally holding that scene in his mind so that the picture would correspond to his original text. Over time, this system of mental representation gave rise to an increasing number of well-known constructs. During the Renaissance period, these became known as "the theatre of memory."

The initiates of this period (Sixteenth Century) began to make an ever stronger connection between this internal representation of the symbol and the nature of the symbols that I previously described. The inner Temple gradually became a place where the initiate was able to stand at the center of the symbols on which he was working. Later the ritual began to take form in this inner Temple and was gradually elaborated into a conscious transformation of the self, in which the initiate attempted to reconnect with the upper levels of his consciousness through an exaltation of his soul. The symbols that were used in the rituals were created from what is observed and understood of our daily lives. The ritual was conceived internally, on the spiritual level, using that symbolic knowledge, but in full consciousness, and according to genuine principles of transformation. The operative or Theurgic rituals were always worked out in this way. It was according to these very principles that later an interpretation of the operative tools of Freemasonry was to be formulated. These developments gradually gave life to what I now call Freemasonry. One may therefore understand why these principles of inner work are fundamental. Yet, even if the representation is of the highest quality, without those principles, the initiations and rituals would be nothing more than a mere "stage performance," performed without heart.

With the introduction of the inner dimension, the initiate is able to place himself on the spiritual level and to really act on his own being. However, it is important to emphasize the fact that this ability to act on our own beings is not an automatic by-product of every such attempt: it only comes about by the use of traditional techniques of visualization, pronunciation, concentration, and ritualized ways of moving about in the inner Temple; this elevation only occurs when the initiate takes control of all of the aspects of the ritual, first on an inner level, and then, secondly, on the external level. This inner work offers the initiate the inspiration to transform the ritual performance in a Masonic lodge into such a powerful method of transformation that contemporary Freemasons would find nothing to envy in the numerous traditions of the East.

This period in history is unique. It is critical that we learn to use the initiatic keys from a worldwide Western Tradition. My book Secrets and Practices of the Freemasons will show you the main principles of these practices and how to use them. In fact, most of the principles of the Masonic heritage can be used at home, individually (not solely in a group meeting). Whether or not you are a Freemason, you will be able to use these individual meditations, rituals, and spiritual practices.

PRACTICE
The Inner Use of a Masonic Symbol: The Compass

Almost everyone knows that the primary symbols of Freemasonry are the square and the compass. As essential symbols of Freemasonry, they can be used in many ways as part of inner practices.
Here is an example of how you can immediately experience the inner power of this symbol. Imagine that you are an architect or a modern apprentice who is trying to chisel your first sculpture out of stone. Before you can begin, you must learn how to use the chisel and the hammer. If you try to chisel a block of stone in physical reality, the stone will resist your initial efforts and you will quickly learn what works and what does not. As you proceed you will immediately see the results of your efforts; your errors will also be apparent. Strangely, these principles also apply to the inner work we are discussing. If you perform this esoteric work (described below) alone in a quiet place, you will be able to feel internally what you would have felt outwardly, if you were trying to chisel a real block of stone. In other words, you will see the results of your errors and you will know when you are getting it right.

For this ritual, we recommend that you use the three main Masonic symbols that are used in every Masonic Temple, for every ritual.
  1. Choose a book that is sacred to you. If you are a Christian, it will be the Bible; Buddhists would use the Dhammapada; Hermetists would use the Corpus Hermeticum (and so on). Open the book to a page that seems essential to you.
  2. On top of the book, place the compass and then the square. (We recommend putting the square on the top of the compass, which is the first step in Freemasonry.) You will find a representation of the proper arrangement for those symbols on my website (http://www.debiasi.org) and in Secrets and Practices of the Freemasons. If you cannot use a real book and tools, you may draw them on white cardboard, or even just visualize them.
  3. Seat yourself comfortably on a chair facing these three symbols.
Begin the exercise with a period of relaxation. When you feel the moment is right, open your eyes (or you may open then halfway) and just look at the symbols without holding any particular thoughts in your mind. Just look at the symbols and breathe deeply and regularly. Look the shape of the sacred book. After a few minutes, look at the compass. Feel its shape, its position on the book. Do not analyze these symbols, but just look at them. You will start to understand why the beauty of these symbols is important in this kind of spiritual process. Keep in mind that, for Hermetists, Beauty helps us to ascend to the divine.

Close your eyes and begin to create these three symbols inside of you. You do not have to imagine a real picture (like a poster on your wall), but simply imagine and focus your mind on these symbols.
If necessary, open your eyes and look at the symbols in front of you for a moment, then close your eyes and increase the clarity of your visualization.

After a few minutes, when the symbols are as clear as you can make them (no more than four or five minutes), breathe deeply, and, maintaining your state of relaxation, stand up. Stand up straight, with your spinal column as vertical as possible. Your arms should be relaxed on either side of your body. It is important to remain relaxed. Your legs should be in contact one with another. Your feet should be close together. Your position is a representation of compass when it is closed. Your head is the axis of the compass. Straighten and strengthen your legs for a while, as you remain aware of the thoughts and feelings that will emerge when you assume this "closed" posture. Take your time; breathe and relax your body during this exercise. Do not speculate; allow your thoughts to arise as they will, and let your body speak freely to you. Don’t worry if you do not receive any specific thoughts. This kind of spiritual work is intended to manifest the symbol in your body. In fact, this is a kind of incarnation of the symbol through your physical form. Over time, as you continue to practice this exercise, you will progressively improve in your abilities. You may experience various phenomena, including psychological, psychic, etc.

After a while, open your legs so that they are about your shoulder width apart, with your weight balanced between your legs. Your arms and hands will remain at your sides.

Hold this new position. Breathe and be aware of any new feelings and thoughts. In this context, it is interesting to note that the Masonic tradition uses precise numbers related to the opening of the compass.

The numbers they use include 180 degrees (a straight line), as well as forty-five and ninety degrees.

We will now use this knowledge to achieve an esoteric third step in our incarnation of the compass. After a while, when you are ready, open your legs more widely, to an angle of approximately forty-five degrees. If it is helpful, you can place two markers on the floor prior to beginning this exercise. However, mathematical precision isn’t important here. Adopt the posture and make it resemble the forty-five degree opening of the compass, and all will be well. Also, before proceeding, it is important to note that, in Qabalah, the number forty-five can be represented by a name: "Mah" – hm (Mem = 40 et He = 5).

You can spell this word out by visualizing certain shapes in our minds, which have been long associated with these letters. Thus, Mem can be seen as a beautiful Cup, a symbol of the first manifestation, the feminine principle, that which surrounds, gives form, and shape (Binah/Saturn). There is also a connection between Mem and the element Water (Mayim in Hebrew). The second letter He represents the vital breath, the spirit that moved above the Waters of creation in the book of Genesis in the Bible. (A more complete explanation of the symbolism of the Hebrew letters can be found in Secrets and Practices of the Freemasons).

When you have opened your legs to this angle, close your eyes and visualize a Cup (five feet tall) at heart level, approximately the distance of your extended arms in front of you. The Cup should be blue or indigo.
Stretch your arms forward gently, palms towards the Cup. Extend your hands, as if to take the Cup between your two palms.

Visualize the Hebrew letter Mem (m) in the water of the Cup, feeling the energy course through you. Vibrate the sound “MAH” into the Cup so that your breath touches the water.

Breathe deeply as you hold this Cup in your mind, visualizing it directly in front of you at arms length. Reach out with your hands and take the Cup. Imagine putting the Cup inside the center of your breast, in your secret heart center, your solar center. You can actually do this! When you are done, place the palm of your right hand on the center of your chest, and then place the palm of your left hand on top of the right one. Maintain this position for a while. Continue breathing deeply and regularly. Be aware of the presence of this mystical Cup inside your heart center, providing health, energy, and light to your whole body. Receive this energy and allow any thoughts or feelings that arise to manifest for you.

When you are ready, move back to your first position, with your legs together, and your arms relaxed at your sides.

Be seated and meditate for a while.

When you are ready, you may write some notes, if you feel the need.

Your first step on the discovery of practical, individual, and traditional Masonic teachings has begun.

The Healing Heart Meditation

This article was written on October 12, 2008 posted under Self-Help

Choose a time when you will be undisturbed for twenty minutes. Loosen any tight clothing. Disconnect the phone. Light incense and a candle from your shadow altar. Play relaxing, soft music. Tape-record the meditation or have someone read it to you.

Begin as with all the exercise in this book—breathe slowly and deeply. Exhale all your concerns and worries of the day. Inhale a feeling of calm and well-being. When you notice yourself becoming more relaxed, focus your attention on the area around your heart. This is the area of your spiritual ideal and it is where all healing takes place.

Breathe out your cares. Breathe in a beautiful rose-pink light. Let it surround your heart and fill you with a sense of well-being. Allow the rose-pink light to expand, fill your body, and radiate all around you. Take your time. Breathe slowly. You feel safe, calm, and loved.

Without expectation, know you are entering sacred space to be with your Higher Self. Be still and at peace. Allow your thoughts to end and leave without censoring them. Regard them with detachment and, if your mind wanders, bring it back to your rose-colored heart center and your slow, deep breathing. The still, small voice within you only whispers, it never shouts. Listen for communication with your Higher Self.

Come back into your body calmly and deliberately. Become aware of your surroundings, the placement of your feet and your contact with the ground. Open your eyes and gradually return to normal consciousness. Know that the feeling of universal love is available to you again, anytime and anywhere. It is always surrounding you whether you are aware of it or not. Feel connected to something greater than yourself. Above all, know you are loved and have always been so. Record your experience in a journal.
